Why Delaware Juniors?

What sets us apart

As a club, we pride ourselves on celebrating and ensuring development of the whole athlete, mind body and skill. Achievements outside of volleyball should be recognized at a club level, as we are one family, one club. Volleyball milestones should also be recognized, from a player getting their first serve over in a game to beating their previous kill, dig or assist record. No amount of greatness is too small to be recognized and celebrated.

Happy players are the best players!

Sport Psychology

Volleyball is a sport that is highly dependent on the athletes mental fortitude and psyche. In order for the player to develop appropriately, they must do so in positive environment, conducive to learning and growing.

Making mistakes is essential for growth. However when a player does not feel comfortable in displaying these vulnerabilities, their skill progression will plateau, due to fear of ridicule or punishment. It is imperative to provide athletes with a mentally safe environment to learn and test the boundaries of their sport, which is something that Delaware Juniors coaches are required to do. This does not mean that physical corrective measures for adverse skill progression will never occur, it simply means that our coaches will not belittle, berate or ridicule any athlete at any time while under the employ of Delaware Juniors Volleyball Club (all of which can be found in detail, in our Handbook).

Fundraisers & Scholarship Program

Financial constraints should never be a reason that a child does not receive the high caliber training offered by club volleyball. To combat this, all of our fundraising, extracurricular events and merchandise shop will go, in part, to our scholarship program.

After each fiscal year, we will determine how many families we can provide financial aid for and will make decisions individually. We do not look solely at skill for financial aid, but at the athletes attitude, coachability and grades in school. We do not want anyone to be limited based on finances, but also want to ensure that those receiving scholarship are the true embodiment of our club philosophies.

Player Selection

Too often do we hear accounts from athletes wishing that a club season had gone differently, that their coach did not seem to care or that they did not grow in the sport. Politics have become cancerous throughout the sport and many kids are left behind to play the old favorites or a friend's child. This is something that will not be tolerated at any level of play and to combat this, our team of coaches and support staff will determine team placements as a group. We believe that player selection should be ambiguous and that financial constraints should not count someone out. We will give everyone an equal opportunity to join our club and if you feel as though the integrity of this notion has been jeopardized in any way, we whole heartedly encourage your feedback to prevent this from occurring again.
