About Us

Delaware Juniors Volleyball Club was founded in 1982, by longtime University of Delaware Coach, Barb Viera, to grow the sport of volleyball.  Today, the club continues its tradition of providing excellent coaching and giving our youth the opportunity to grow as young adults, athletes and students, all while teaching them important life skills such as teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship. We pride ourselves in focusing on the whole athlete, mind, body and skill,  and not letting financial constraints get in the way of someone pursuing club volleyball!

Mission Statement

Delaware Junior’s Volleyball Club aims to provide equal opportunities to all players without financial limitations. It is our philosophy that the WHOLE athlete should be celebrated and developed, not just the sport aspect. Mental health of an athlete is just as important as physical health, as without understanding an emphasizing the importance of this, comes poor performance and low self-esteem. Positive coaching is embraced, and personal achievements are acknowledged. Simply put, athletes that are happy, play better and have more fun.

We believe that anyone who wants to be trained in sport should be treated with respect and equality, regardless of skill level or age. Each player will receive identical opportunities to learn without fear or stress of favoritism and politics. In addition, player/player relationships should likewise be respectful and cordial at minimum. The environment one trains in will dictate their performance outcomes and anything that disrupts our mission will not be tolerated! Delaware Juniors will be a safe place to make mistakes, develop skills and grow a love of the game.

Our athletes will maintain exceptional sportsmen like conduct both on the court and off. Our accomplishments will not be measured solely by wins and losses, but by personal growth and achievements. Although winning is not necessarily the primary objective, we believe it will occur naturally as the players’ skills and confidence are nurtured and developed. Our staff emphasizes the spirit of volleyball, which includes competition, camaraderie, cooperation, teamwork, and exceptional sportsmanship.  We are firmly rooted in the belief that volleyball skills improve through playing the game; therefore, we strive to provide each athlete with playing opportunity.
